Nilaveli Beach is located in Nilaveli a suburn town 16 km northwest of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka. On this beach turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean kiss the warm sands. A tourist attraction not to be missed whether you're looking for sunbathing, a dip in the ocean, whale watching, snorkelling or scuba diving.

It's been almost 3 years since I used my PADI scuba diver's licence the last time. And suddenly an opportunity showed up - and of course we decided to grab it.
We went diving with a local dive company - Pearl Divers - and it was an amazing experience. Not the best dives I've ever had, but you can never plan a dive. The ocean has it's own ways in that matter.
What made Pearl Divers a great PADI certified company for me, is that I felt very comfortable from moment one. Andy, the owner of Pearl Divers, had a calm way of approaching and preparing our dives. Safety and comfort for every diver was high priority.
I can thank Pearl Divers and my best dive buddy Lasse for relaunching my scuba life.

We spend our last day having a snorkel at Pigeon Island. The island itself has two beaches. The main beach where all the boats arrive and another smaller beach just on the other side of the island. Beware that the morning hours - where the waters are calm - is also the busiest. A lot of tourists and locals visit the coral reefs of this island. Unfortunately damages to the reef has been the outcome of the many people snorkling here. On the main beach the shallowest corals have been fenced, which is not only good, but also necessary. If you're a decent swimmer and you're looking for less crowded reefs, the smaller beach is worth a snorkel. Follow the rocks of the island and you'll soon be clear of fins kicking your face and people standing on the corals. The marina life here is sure amazing, chances of spotting reef sharks or sea turtles are pretty high. I do wish, that the Sri Lankan government would set a maximum limit for people visiting per day.
